Good Evening, Pioneers,
Tonight you are going to discuss the setting of your book after reading for 35 minutes. Remember, setting is characterized by place, time, and environment.
1. Place: Where?
2. Time: When?
3. Environment: What?
*Remember environment is not limited to "sunny day, rainy day, etc.". Environment can mean tense, busy, crowded, exciting, etc. Think about going to a concert. A concert is often crowded and filled with exciting energy.
4. You are then going to write how the main character reacted or reacts to the setting.
Example:
I am reading the book "Nightmares" by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. The story takes place at an old, creepy mansion in the middle of no where. In today's reading, the main events happened during the dark, and spooky night. The old mansion's environment was full of spooks and noises that kept Charlie awake. The setting directly effected Charlie because _____________________________.
Remember there are four parts to this assignment! Be sure to explain (in depth) the main elements of your story's setting!
Good luck Pioneers! You can do it!
I am reading the book "Mick Harte was here" by Barbara Park. The story takes place in a normal small town like Houston, but smaller. In today's reading, the main events happened at the road near the school. Also in the Harte's quiet, money house. The Harte's house is quiet because they lost Mick. He got hit by a truck after school while going to a friends house. The setting effected Phoebe, Mick's Sister, because she is his sister and she loved him more than anything! Phoebe and Mick always got along very well except that morning the got in a fight. Phoebe is regretting it more than anything because it was the last morning that they had together.

ReplyDeleteMy book is 'DragonBreath' by Ursula Vernon.
ReplyDeleteThe story takes place in a old, creepy, haunted house in the middle of a little town. The events took place on Halloween night. The environment was a dark, cold, and windy night. The haunted house was old, creaky, and abandoned with boarded up windows. The setting directly effected Danny and his friends because it made them feel scared and uncomfortable being there especially when they found out there was a ghost that wanted their candy or at least some from each of them. -Leon
I really like this comment. You gave a lot of detail.

I am reading "Cavemice" by Geronimo Stilton. It takes place in Old Mouse City and The Cave of Memories. The Cave is dark, gloomy, and guarded by a bear and an old man. It takes place thousands of years ago during the summertime. The cave walls had drawings and writing about everyone's secrets and memories. There are a ton of rooms and underground waterways in the cave. Geronimo is very interested in the cave because of all the drawings and writings. Geronimo wasn't scared of the cave because he was to excited to find the cure for the great stomachache.

I am reading "The Mouse with the Question Mark Tail" by Richard Peck. The story takes place in Great Britain on the property surrounding Buckingham Palace. In tonight's reading the mouse is marching with other mouse soldiers to the edge of a lake. This part of the story takes place in the afternoon of a sunny day. There is an air of excitement from the mice as the captain rides in on his skittish chipmunk. The Mouse with the question mark tail was scared and nervous when he met the captain.

I am reading NERDS book 6 ( Attack of the BULLIES ) by : Michael Buckley. The setting is a secret base with hi-tech machines that the world doesn't know about, like nano bots that give people super powers, shrink rays, portals to other dimensions or even machines that erase peoples memory! Also the base is under a school and the school is in a city in New york city, where it is very crowded. the setting effects the characters ( which are 5 kids named Duncan, Matilda, Jackson, Julio and Ruby, and a lot of the greatest scientists ) because they have to make sure the public, even the Government can' know about it.

I'm reading the book "How I survived Middle School Bullies, Broccoli, and Snake Hill". In this book a boy named Rafe went to a summer school camp. This camp had lots of cabins, people, and a hill called snake hill. This happened about two weeks after school ended. He is not excited about camp, but most people like it and have fun. Some characters think it's the worst camp ever because it is not fancy. The cabins have only screen window, unstable bunk beds, and poles holding up the roof. So far, Rafe really does not like it.
